Shadow

Shadow’s a rescue dog and was picked up on New Years Day 2014. She had been in the dog home for a month or two after being found on the streets. Her previous owner’s not traceable. She was microchipped though, which is how we know her name is Shadow and that she was seven years old at that time. I did think about changing her name. Somehow that didn’t seem fair.

I can’t say enough about how fantastic she’s been. You wouldn’t think she had a troubled history at all. Like all the others she loves to play, cuddle and eat. She thrives on big walks.

The only problem is she doesn’t play well with others. To be specific, other animals or at least dogs. Every dog is a dog to fight it seems but then none of us is perfect and in most other ways, she is.

This entry used to stop here. It’s taken me a very long time to update it. Unfortunately, Shadow had to be put to sleep in July 2020 after complications with a spinal issue she had long suffered with. I should say that despite that problem in her last couple of years, her life was pretty fantastic right up until the near the very end.

Sometimes you feel a dog is ready to go. I didn’t really feel that was the case with her, but there was no other option

Originally we expected just two or three years with Shadow. A combination of the SPCA misreporting her age at first and her longevity meant in actuality we were extremely lucky to get six years with Shadow. I miss her enormously.
