Dear Diane
We also have/had a King Charles but has now gone to live with my in-laws. Buster our Dog was 18 months when we got Alfie (King charles) and Buster was an angel with him when we got Bella who is now four months although she was good with Alfie Buster and Bella together would pick on him. My experience is that the same breed dog seem to get on better together. Alfie has gone to live with my in-laws as they are able to give him 100% attention which is what I found the breed needed. Personaly I would go with the same sex as your Spaniel. Good Luck!

Hi there Eve.
Thanks for popping by to tell us about Buster and Bella, they sound like a right pair. There's something very nice about having a pair of boxers, I miss it.
Thanks also for advising Diane.

Diane,
Hey there, my gran used to have King Charles Spaniels very nice doggies indeed.
I'm not really sure what to advise. It may be that Eve's advice to you is the best.
The only thing I would say (It's not by any means definitive advice, just some of my personal experience.) is that. At several points I've had two boxers and the best relationship was either between Jason and Lottie or Jason and Lily.
In both cases that was a male female pairing and in both cases one dog was significantly older than the other.
I don't know if that really means anything though, because it's just one experience. Also in both those parings there is a common denominator, Jason. Maybe Jason just happened to get on well with his sisters.
The only other pairing was Muffin and Lottie. They got on well on the whole but were somewhat competitive and had a couple of fights. They were mother and daughter. Maybe that influenced things, though I don't know if they knew they were related.
So here I am giving you the opposite advice from Eve.
Not because eve is wrong, just because I would tend to go for opposite sexes based on past experience. That experience may not be representative though and Eve could very well be right.
So what that means I fear is that you'll need to do more research. Maybe ask at somewhere like forums at www.boxerworld.com or somewhere similar for Spaniels.
Hopefully you'll get a lovely pairing.
Best of luck with your search.
Paul
