Hi, Ive posted a few comments on here and wondered if anyone can help me. We have 2 boxers, sisters, and walking them together is a nightmare. They are 19months and walking them alone is not to much of a problem but walking them together, they pull constantly. We have had a halti for them both which does help, but they both hate wearing them and it rubbed Bonnies nose making it sore, so I have had to stop using them. Does anyone know if you can buy a Halti specially designed for short nosed breeds? I watch a recent episode of 'It's me or the dog' featuring a boxer and they had a halti on him that was for short nosed breeds, but I can't find one anywhere.

Thanks, Emma

Hey Emma! :)

Welcome back!

I've never tried to use a Halti, but I've heard quite often that they are not suited to short nosed dogs. So I just assumed that was the case.

I hadn't heard of Halti's specific to short noses though. I assume you've tried the obvious and googled for them? I don't see any at the official Halti site ( http://www.halti.co.uk ) so I guess it must be a different manufacture.

Have you tried any other alternatives like harnesses? I've always stuck to a basic lead and collar but a lot of people like them.

Also, I know it's not particularly helpful but if you spend a lot of time practising in your garden. Practising not allowing them to walk in front of you. Not allowing them to go through doors in your house in front of you. Especially not out the outside door. It could long term help.

I fount that doing that with the outside door and garden gate using my brothers dogs helped to set a tone for the walk. It didn't solve problems but it felt like it helped a bit and then on shorter walks at least let me easier make sure they didn't walk ahead of me.

It's a very slow process though, well for me.

hi i have a 16 month old male boxer who is a complete scatter brain ive used a halti since he was a puppy and it works really well it stops pulling and gives me complete control im able to turn his head and distract him, he is still able to eat and play with toys with the halti on. He would on many occasions try and get it off but you really need to perserver with it.

There are many conditions in the boxer that are caused by heredity. Information on the breed in general, tumors, fainting and more.
